About
The Art
"Send up a signal and I'll throw you the line" by Billy Joel inspired the name for this site and best describes these artworks. Original hand-drawn art combining colored pencil and ink of nautical signal pennants flying proudly in the rigging. The blending of motion with the mystery of color-coded flags creates a unique and conversational art piece on anyone's home or office wall.
Historically, flags have been used to convey a message from ship-to-ship or ship-to-shore. Today there is an international code standard and etiquette for how and when they are used. For the most of the yachting and boating world, a boat is "dressed", (boaters fly flags, a boat wears a flag) on celebratory days or events while in port. So I've taken liberty to arrange these pennants to send your unique message. Spell out your family name, vacation place or homeport. Personalize your piece by including your yacht club burgee, school or other pennant or flag.
Each original artwork comes professionally double-matted and framed. A commission's layout can be modified and will be quoted accordingly, submit a commission request by contacting me. The original is digitized and available as additional fine art prints (Giclée), framed or unframed for family or friends.
Additionally, I create limited editions fine art prints (Giclée) of popular destinations and offer them for purchase either framed or ready-for-framing. The originals for these prints are also professionally framed and matted and are always available to purchase.
